tutorial task week 9: Essay!

I have already made up my mind of what question and topic my essay will contain. The task I have chosen is: What is communication? Do whales communicate? Do birds? Do atoms? Does DNA communicate? What would you suggest as the limits to communication? When does a failure of human communication occur?

My topic for this task is how communication can be so much more than language. Communication can b.e so many things, it can be written it can be verbal. It can be visual it can be audible. I want to find out what is the most common form for communication, not just for us human, but for all living organs on the earth. Can humans once in the future understand a dogs barking. This is some of the topics I will research throughout this essay. This again is something I think I will find very interesting to research. I know as always it’s going to be challenging, however that’s the way I like it. I could go for a safer topic that I know more about, on the other hand this will give me some new aspects of communication and how communication works all over the world.

tutorial task week 8: Video Finished!

My video is finally finished!! The progress has been very fun. My video mostly exists of still images, text and audio. The images is images I have been taking with my IPhone, the audio is YouTube clip I have been recording with my IPhone. I have also edited some of the footage with a app on the IPhone, so basically all the tools I have used is my computer and my IPhone. To editing this video I have been using Windows Movie maker. I had some problems when I was uploading the audio, the file was an m4a and was not recognized by windows movie maker. To fix this problem I downloaded free software called AVS audio converter, so I converted the audio files to wma files. Since I used a free software a little voice comes in in the audio and says AVS audio, this is what I talked about earlier when I talked about hidden commercial in free software downloads. I uploaded the video trough YouTube and share it from my blog from there. I found this task very interesting and have been enjoying working with it. I will say I own this production, the audio I used was free content and not copyrighted. The video will be posted in my next blog post. Feels really good to finally cross the goal line and enjoy the feeling of being finished!

Respond to content week 7 : Wikipedia and Facebook

In this week’s tutorial task it’s a couple of things who is on the discussion plan. First of all is how Wikipedia is useful.  I think Wikipedia is useful because it covers almost everything, it is not a reliable source since anyone can go in and edit there. However it is a very good info place and it’s a good place to get basic info. To make Wikipedia most useful you get the info you need from Wikipedia, then you research it more to find out if that is really reliable. I personally have never edited anything at Wikipedia however I can’t imagine it would be very hard. 

The number two topic on this week’s agenda is why Facebook work. Facebook is now one of the biggest social Medias. There are more than 800 million active users on Facebook (Facebook, 2011). The reasons this social Media have worked out so good is many. Some of them are: Easy to stay in contact with friends and family. Meet new people (dating/flirting) maybe one of the biggest group of people using it. Easy to monitor friends and see what people are doing. I thought it would be difficult to delete your Facebook account, however I found it very easy. I found three ways. The easiest is the one I am going to share with you. All I had to do was sending Facebook an email saying that I wanted to delete my account permanently. And as easy as that my dogs profile was gone forever. My dog has never forgiven me…

tutorial task week 7 : The school geek is doing great!

The new life as a school geek is going great, I am working more efficient and better than ever and I don’t suffer from the big guilt that was building up because I did not have time or energy to do my school work. My short clip film is coming closer to an end, and the project is even more fun that I predicted, I have filmed and edidet three different ideas already and I are still not sure if I want to go for anyone of those yet. The opportunists are so many! So far I found my equipment good enough, haven’t encored any problems yet, and the camera is better than I predicted.

So with my new positive experiences of actually have time and do my school work properly I can’t say it better than this T-shirt logo.  “Be cool! Stay in school!”

PS I just ordered that shirt! :D

Respond to content week 6 : Internet positive or negative for Hollywood!?

Many people are saying that Hollywood is having a lot trouble with the internet, but is this true? The internet has been around for more than 30 years now and this has had a large impact on everything and everyone around the world. The internet is one of the biggest and most used features in the world. Yes Hollywood has experienced a couple of problems such as downloading and hacking, but overall I think that the internet has had a positive effect on Hollywood. If you look at how Hollywood has expanded from 1970 -2011 à  this is done through all of the promotions via advertisements, and the online followers that view these.  Hollywood movies are now watched all over the world because the internet makes it so accessible (Adam Finn, 2000). However I can see the concerns from the tops in Hollywood. I think that the problem gets bigger the more advance the technology gets.  One of the biggest problem Hollywood and the film makers are facing is downloading. According to the NPD Group, a consumer and retail information company, for every legally downloaded video file, there are five illegally downloaded video files on P2P networks and BitTorrent sites. The research carried out by the group shows that 8 precent of all U.S. households (6 million) illegally downloaded a movie ( https://www.npd.com/press/releases/press_061220.html ) . This research is for 3 months. Let’s say that this 6 million people went to the movies instead of download the movies illegally. And let’s say the average movie ticket is 10 $. We can then already see a loss of minimum 60 million $ dollar, + all commercial income +++ and that is just for three month time in just one country. So yes it is negative sides as well for Hollywood according to the new technologies however it is two sides of a case. And mine opinion is that without internet Hollywood would not be as gigantic as they are today.

tutorial task week 6: Back from the dead!

I am back from the dead! The last 5 weeks have been a really hectic and exhausting time in my life, and unfortunately it has affected my school work. It all started when the government money I am supposed to get from my government did not come as planned. Then I was sitting in a country on the other side of the world with a really empty bank account, with rent, food and other expenses over my head. I was struggling and did not know what do to. I ended up with getting two jobs and have been working my ass off the past few weeks.  Now I have the money, but I have a long way to go school wise, so from now on its about trying to find the balance... I just don’t hope it’s too late! So this is the day were the school geek will pop back to life again!

So the first task the new born school geek is taking on him (me) is to make a short video clip about a new communication technology. The task is supposed to be a group task, but because of my absence I don’t have a group and have to do it myself. It is going to be a hard and challenging task, however I love challenges and can’t wait to get started. The ideas are already flying throughout my head.  I don’t have too much fancy equipment so I am going to do it simple, a good friend of mine once told me: The simple is often the best.  So I will shot it with my iphone and edit it throughout windows movie maker. It’s going to be an exciting job.
